After long days I needed something that would quiet my mind. I bought a knife, a strap of leather and a spool of waxed thread, and I started cutting at the kitchen table. I wasn't trying to build a business — I just wanted to make something with my own hands and see it finished.

I can't take the credit for where this went. Because of God we are here today — a hobby became a calling, the kitchen table became a workbench, and the workbench became a workshop. Every door that opened, He opened. I say that first because it belongs first.

Leather is honest. The grain marks, the healed scars, the way a hide darkens exactly where a hand touches it most — it tells you the truth about itself. I work only in 100% full-grain and top-grain leather, because anything less doesn't age. It just wears out.

Every edge is bevelled, sanded and burnished by hand until it's smooth enough to run a thumb along. Every seam is a real saddle stitch — two needles, locked, so that even if a thread is cut it will not unravel. Almost nobody sees this work. You'll feel it in ten years, and that is the point.

What began with a few wallets grew into Ceylon Leather Crafts. It's still my hands on every piece — I cut it, I stitch it, and I check each one myself before it's boxed. If it isn't good enough to carry my own name, it doesn't leave the workshop.

I teach leather crafting across Sri Lanka, and it's the part I'm proudest of. I want this to outlive me — a community of people here who can cut, stitch and finish properly, and who understand why something made by hand is worth keeping.
